Top 5 Actors:

1. Tom Hanks with 6 votes.

2. Matt Damon with 4 votes.

3. Jack Nicholson with 3 votes.

4. Tom Cruise with 3 votes.

5. Kevin Spacey with 3 votes.

Top 5 Actresses:

1. Kate Winslet with a whopping 5 votes.

2. Charlize Theron with 3 votes.

The rest of the top 5 is a little more than three remaining choices. These actresses all had 2 votes: Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow, Winona Ryder, Diane Lane, Julia Roberts, and Meryl Streep.

Now on to a new discussion:

What do you consider the Top 5 Trilogies of All-Time?

Let's get some real debates started!

  1. Mandatory reference point for this conversation: The Trilogy Meter

    My list:
    1) Star Wars
    2) Lord of the Rings
    3) Indiana Jones
    4) Back to the Future
    5) X-Men/The Matrix

Tie for 5th place. 2 of the 3 X-men movies were great vs 1 great Matrix movie, but the first Matrix movie was SOOOO great it makes up for the less-awesomeness of the 2nd and 3rd parts and compares to combined goodness of the X-men 1 & 2.

Disclaimer: I've only seed the first movie in the Godfather trilogy

  2. My only submission for this discussion is Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colors Trilogy: Blue, White and Red.

    Brilliant.

Okay, and I have to steal one from Paul's list too--I loved the Back to the Future trilogy. English, Doc!

Oh, and (I'm probably gonna get killed for this), but I think I would take the old animated Lord of the Rings trilogy (and The Hobbit) over the new one. Cheesy music and all!

  3. This is a good topic. I tried to base my pick on strength throughout. Some trilogies like Pirates of the Caribbean where I would have the first part as a top 25 all time favorite have another pair that were really poor so consistency is what I looked for in my choices.

    Hannibal Lecter Series
    The Matrix
    Oceans 11-12-13
    Bourne
    Star Wars (original three)

Here's a Wikipedia reminder list of trilogies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_series_with_three_entries

  4. Oh, i forgot about the Bourne trilogy.
    Changing mine to:

    Star Wars
    Lord of the Rings
    Indiana Jones
    Bourne Series
    Back to the Future

Honorable mention also goes to the Toy Story Trilogy when Toy Story 3 comes out. It will be somewhere on this list, just not sure where yet.

  5. thanks for that wikipedia link--Who knew there were so many trilogies. And wow, some of those trilogies never should have been trilogies. Skulls? Cringe.

Glad I saw that link. I'll add one more to my list:

    1.Three Colors
    2.Back to the Future
3.Dollars Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

  6. 1. The Godfather
    2. Bourne
    3. Christian Bale's Batman (doesn't matter how good/bad the third one is)
    4. Back to the Future (That's Heavy)
    5. National Lampoon's Vacation(s) (can that count even though there were four if I remember correctly)

  7. I will go with..

    1) Star Wars original 3
    2) LOTR- last one was way too long
    3) Indiana Jones
    4) Back to the Future
    5) Austin Powers (I know it basically the same movie all three times, but man they crack me up)

And a few that I really wanted to put in my top 5, but some of the movies in the series lacked a bit:
    a) National Lampoons Vacation series (I guess it actually had 4 movies)
    b) Mad Max (didn't care for thunderdome)
    c) Matrix... they second two were so much less than the original
    d) Pirates... same with Matrix, the last two were much weaker

  8. I base this on consistency throughout the trilogy. So, as much as I love The Matrix, it won't be on here since the last 2 are just ok and not great movies.

    1. Star Wars (ep. 4 thru 6)

    2. The Godfather

    3. Jason Bourne

    4. Lord of the Rings

    5. Indiana Jones

(Once the 3rd Batman movie comes out, it will likely take over the 5 spot, if not a touch higher.)

  9. Bourne
    The Dollars Trilogy
    Evil Dead

That's the only trilogies I can come up with that actually only have three movies in them and all three were good.

I appreciate the effort of people saying Star Wars.....but only the good ones!. haha Quit trying to save it. Star Wars is dead and it's not a trilogy anymore.

  10. Just realized, should we count Indiana Jones now, since it has 4 movies (and a 5th on the way)?

I think Star Wars should count as two separate trilogies. They were certainly marketed that way, and are so distinct that i think they still count.

  11. 1) Star Wars (Ep. IV-VI)
    2) The Godfather
    3) Alien
    4) Evil Dead (you're not alone on that one, Lethargic)
    5) Blade
